History
MANTIQUEIRA DE MINAS REGION
Located on the Minas Face of Serra da Mantiqueira, in the south of the State of Minas Gerais, is the Region of Mantiqueira de Minas, producer of high quality coffees.
With a centuries-old tradition in coffee growing, at altitudes between 900 and 1500 meters, it has a different terroir, due to the climate and environment, favorable to the production of specialty coffees.
Coffee growing is in its fourth or fifth generation, demonstrating the regional potential and the preservation of man in the countryside.
In the year 2000 began the work of Geographical Indication, seeking recognition and appreciation of the region for the high sensory quality of the coffee produced.
In June 2020, it was recognized as "Denomination of Origin" by the National Institute of Industrial Property - INPI, confirming that our coffees have unique characteristics, linked to natural and human factors.
Comprised of 25 municipalities, the region has 8,000 producers, 83% of which are small producers, making a total of 55,000 hectares, with an average annual production of 1,000,000 60kg bags.
With a minimum score of 83 points, our Seal of “Denomination of Origin” guarantees the consumer a product with origin and quality, with unique, differentiated characteristics. The predominant sensory attributes of Mantiqueira de Minas coffees are sweetness and a mild citrus acidity.
The governance of the Mantiqueira Region of Minas is carried out by cooperatives, COCARIVE, COOPERRITA, COOPERVASS and Rural Producers Unions, forming the Council of Representatives, which together plan, organize and promote the Region.
The coffee growing in the Mantiqueira Region of Minas is, at the same time, traditional and modern.
